You know it’s funny, I’ve not even gotten the site back up on it’s feet and I’m posting the fun stuff. This post is partly a taste of what may become of the homepage of frayedwires: geek news, reviews, my opinons and cool software. Let’s jump into that.

just found this cool app via the TUAW Flickr photo pool. Nocture is a schweet little app (from the makers of one of my other favorite apps, Quicksilver) that can change your monitor settings so it looks like the classic green screen CRTs or, how I’m using it now, to make it more night vision friendly. Shades of red and orange don’t mess with your night vision as much as most colors. So, I told Nocturne to use a shade of red. It also inverts the images (black->white white->black) so it gets even darker.
I’m using it as I type. So far I really like it. Check it out, and download Quicksilver too, it’s sooo useful.

Now for the less geeky bit. Dad got tickets for my trip up to Solarfest. I leave on the Monday before (the 9th), and fly back down here the 18th (wednesday after SF). So come find me, I’ll be in the rush of crowds, most likely taking pictures or something for Haley’s mom

moo Some people really go outta there way to have a mac without actually buying one. This is an insane project called Flyakite OS X, and they’ve just released version 3 of their bundlement of software that makes windows look like one of the best Mac OS X clones out there. And incredible

This is INSANE. It even has the “baseball” wireless signal sign, and it works. The whole outfit is made out of multiple programs used in harmony to create the OS X experince.

The people are even crazy enough to make their site act like OS X. It boots up and everything. It’s really incredible the detail they have. I commend them on the huge effort it must’ve taken to get this up and running. Good Job!

In other news for the mac’s among us, i’m being distracted by the next thing i’m gonna talk about: tickr for flickr. Search for tags in flickr and they scroll wherever you want them till they run out. It’s amazingly awesome.

Finally, i’d like to get your opinion on something: should i make a separate blog just for my geek stuff, and try to keep this blog more generally general? I’d appreciate any feedback on that matter, the comments or email will be fine.

And how can you live without tabs?

So, i wanted to write this cause the blog software i use (wordpress) has a nightly build, and this is running THE JANUARY 6TH BUILD. It makes me soooo happy i’m leaving it like this unless theres a 2.1 release or i see bugs i can’t handle.

You may be wondering why this is so important that i use the January 6th build…

……..It’s my birthday…..hehe

Copy your music, your way

To be accurate, iPodDisk isn’t a tool that copies songs from iPods; instead, it enables other applications to do so by emulating an iDisk drive. After iPodDisk starts, you just launch your favorite file-management tool and access your iPod as an iDisk.

So, this cool program is called iPodDisk. It’s a cool app for OS X that makes your hidden iPod files unhidden, and it does it in a really cool way: It makes the hidden folder a mounted network drive. It’s a really cool way to view your music files, and FREE(and did i mention cool? )!

Also, i did a minor edit on the homepage: underneath the title of the posts theres the date and now the author name. This was something I wanted for a while, and now its working so happiness. I’ve been playing with wordpress 2 beta for a while, looks pretty cool. I’ll rolled it out on frayedwires when it’s final release, right now its somewhere hidden… Other site news: I want want NEED to fix the links so they aren’t having the bullets on them, we will see. Also, the other nathan is still working on a plethora of header and url images for us, can’t wait for them to be finished!

Later all,
